New and Improved Gear Skiving Option on the HAIMER Microset VIO Linear
It is extremely important in the gear skiving setup process to find the absolute center of the skiving tool. Being off center would cause the tool to drag along the edge of the gear that is being cut. Accurate synchronization between the tool and the gear being generated is of utmost importance. If it is off, it could become scrap material. Now that machine shops are using one machine to do the whole skiving process, it is important to have the correct point on the first run.
While a gear skiving option has been available in the past for the HAIMER Microset VIO Linear tool presetters, recently HAIMER made it even better. HAIMER’s gear skiving option allows the user to find the correct point on the skiving tooth with repeatable accuracy and with the right options on the presetter, a macro can be created to automate the process. With this option, the optical carrier (which includes the camera and lighting devices), can be swiveled by +/- 25o. This feature allows machinists to preset gear skiving tools in a whole new way and allows the machine tool to keep running, which increases productivity overall. This special technology can also be used to measure the overall tool lengths and cutting edges for other types of tooling assemblies as well – making this machine a very practical and affordable option for those that are gear skiving on their mill/turn machines.
